Community Operations Coordinator

Job Posting

Street Reach of Johnston County is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving neighbors experiencing homelessness in Selma, Smithfield, and across Johnston County, NC. Through our Community Resource & Stabilization Center, White Flag Emergency Cold-Weather Shelter, and Reach, Restore & Build program, we provide low-barrier, multi-service support to help our neighbors move toward stability.

Position Overview

The Community Operations Coordinator provides operational, administrative, volunteer, donation, communications, event, and routine participant support for Street Reach of Johnston County. This position helps ensure daily operations run smoothly while providing a consistent point of support for participants, volunteers, donors, churches, businesses, and community partners.

30–40 hrs/week, flexible

Wage: up to $15.00 per hour, based on experience and approved hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

●       Welcome participants and assist with routine forms, resource referrals, replacement IDs, birth certificates, and follow-up needs.

●       Refer participants requiring case management, crisis intervention, or higher-level decision-making to the Executive Director.

●       Schedule donation pickups and deliveries; receive, organize, and document in-kind donations.

●       Coordinate routine communication with donors regarding donation logistics.

●       Maintain volunteer schedules, communicate needs, coordinate assignments, and track volunteer hours.

●       Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to routine organizational inquiries.

●       Create and schedule routine social media content and assist with collecting photos, stories, and program information.

●       Assist with event planning, volunteer coordination, materials, setup, registration, and breakdown.

●       Perform data entry, filing, inventory tracking, document preparation, and general office support.

●       Use a Street Reach vehicle for approved work-related transportation when needed.

●       Assist with maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings, appointments, presentations, and community engagements for the Executive Director as requested.

●       Assist with routine grant and reporting support, including gathering program data, documentation, attachments, and other information requested by the Executive Director.

●       Coordinate routine office purchasing and maintain inventories of office, hygiene, and program supplies.

●       Perform other operational duties as assigned consistent with the purpose of the position.

What This Position Will Not Do

●       Provide clinical counseling, therapy, or medical services.

●       Independently make high-level case management or program eligibility decisions.

●       Independently manage crisis situations beyond established procedures and immediate safety responsibilities.

●       Replace the Executive Director's responsibility for higher-level stabilization case management, financial oversight, fundraising, program leadership, or organizational decision-making.

Qualifications

●       High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or relevant experience preferred.

●       Administrative, nonprofit, customer service, ministry, volunteer coordination, or related experience preferred.

●       Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and time-management skills.

●       Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, addiction, or other barriers.

●       Comfort using common office technology, social media platforms, and learning new systems.

●       Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

●       Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a Street Reach vehicle, if assigned.

●       Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and represent Street Reach professionally when interacting with participants, donors, volunteers, churches, businesses, elected officials, and community partners.

Physical Requirements

●       Regular sitting, standing, and walking.

●       Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

●       Ability to assist with loading and unloading donated items.

●       Ability to work indoors and outdoors during events and donation activities.

Employment Information

●       Paid vacation in accordance with Street Reach policy.

●       No employer-sponsored health insurance or retirement benefits at this time.

●       This is an employee position, not an independent contractor position.

●       Continuation of this position is contingent upon the availability of funding.

●       Employment with Street Reach of Johnston County is at-will. Either the employee or the organization may end the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice.

●       The first 90 days of employment are an introductory period during which performance and fit are evaluated.
