Fabian's Story
Fabian, a veteran seeking help with detox and recovery, first came to Street Reach's Community Stabilization & Resource Center for a meal and a shower — and he kept coming back. When he was finally ready, he asked for help getting into detox. He connected with the VA and was scheduled for transportation to Durham, but a miscommunication caused the appointment to be missed. Street Reach's Outreach Team stepped in and personally drove Fabian to the Durham VA emergency clinic, where he was able to get the help he needed. He is now living at the Durham Rescue Mission, working hard to build a new life.
Junius's Story
"You kept me from freezing to death in my addiction."
Junius, a veteran, was living in his car and navigating the hard realities of addiction when he came to Street Reach seeking a warm place to stay during the cold winter months. Staff encouraged him to take the next step and seek treatment. Junius has since completed inpatient recovery and is now living in a sober living home, building a new life walking in freedom from addiction.
Joe's Story
Joe was finally ready for a change — but one thing still held him back. A lapse in contact with his probation officer had caught up with him, and he found himself in jail awaiting a court date. There, he made a decision: he would take whatever came and do the work to move forward.
Joe was released into Street Reach's Reach, Restore, Build program. He threw himself into the work — and today he's employed four days a week and volunteers his time at Street Reach. Stable housing, and someone who believed in him and helped him navigate the daily obstacles, made all the difference.Â
The Heart of Street Reach
Every meal served, shower provided, ride to treatment, replacement ID, and connection to housing begins with people who choose to help. Through volunteers, donors, churches, and community partners, Street Reach meets immediate needs while walking alongside individuals as they work toward recovery, stability, and a path forward.
